Just the thought of giant tidal waves is enough to send the fear of God through most of us. Many of us still remember the HUGE tidal wave that killed roughly one quarter of a million people in Indonesia at the turn of this century, and we’ve never quite viewed beach trips the same ever since that atrocity.
Right now, the el Nino has pushed massive waves into the Pacific, and Hawaii is being hammered with huge swells. The waves are forcing the tides to reach heights of 20 feet or more above normal. They are crossing major highways, crashing into houses, and doing some major personal property damage.
Some of the waves are said to be 70 feet high, from base to crest, and up to 12 miles of major highway has been shut off North of Oahu, due to concerns of cars being swept away in the swells.
The video below was taken recently by amateurs in the area, and it shows the sheer power of these monster waves.
