Did you know that there is more to classifying a gun than just what type of round it shoots? You would think that this new shotgun, featured in the video below, would be classified as a shotgun, since it shoots a 12 gauge shotgun round. However, this is not the case due to a few other specifics about the gun.
First of all, there is no shoulder rest. For the ATF to classify a gun as a shotgun, it must have a shoulder rest.
Also, the length of the barrel is an issue. Shotguns must have barrels in the ballpark of 18 inches. This gun’s barrel is much shorter than that, making it more in line with a handgun.
Whatever you call it, it has the ATF scrambling for a way to label it.
